The newly constructed building of the Kathmandu Institute of Child Health (KIOCH) Children’s Hospital in Hepali Height, Budhanilkantha-7, has been officially handed over.
The state-of-the-art facility was built and donated by prominent Nepalese philanthropist and businessman Min Bahadur Gurung, alongside Savitri Gurung, Pahalman Gurung, and Sarala Gurung.
According to details shared during the handover ceremony, the Bhat-Bhateni Group, led by Mr. Gurung, invested a total of NPR 71,04,42,244 (approximately 710 million rupees) to fully fund and construct the hospital infrastructure.
A Monument of Hope for Nepalese Children
Speaking at the event, former Chief Justice Sushila Karki lauded the initiative, emphasizing that the hospital will offer selfless, high-quality medical services to children, especially those from underprivileged and low-income backgrounds.
In an emotional tribute, Karki compared the significance of the hospital to one of the world’s greatest wonders:
“For us, this institution is as monumental as the Taj Mahal in India. I am immensely joyful. The greatest achievement here is that children and the poor will receive selfless care. This institution was born out of the absolute dedication, heart, and resources of Min Bahadur Gurung and his wife.”
She further added that the presence and blessings of Jagadguru Shankaracharya during the inauguration injected additional spiritual strength and stability into the institution.
Specialized and Non-Profit Healthcare
Prof. Dr. Bhagawan Koirala, a senior cardiologist and the Chairman of KIOCH, reiterated that the hospital operates strictly as a non-profit entity. He assured the public that the facility is fully equipped to deliver specialized pediatric healthcare services that were previously inaccessible or too expensive for ordinary citizens.
