NBA and Visa Host Workshop on Strengthening Cybersecurity Resilience in Nepal


Kathmandu, 27 January 2026 — The Nepal Bankers’ Association (NBA), in collaboration with Visa, organized a workshop titled “Strengthening Cybersecurity Resilience in Nepal” on January 27, 2026, in Kathmandu. The program aimed to enhance cybersecurity awareness and strengthen institutional capacity within Nepal’s financial sector amid rapid digital transformation.

The inaugural session was attended by senior representatives from the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Cyber Security Directorate, Nepal Army, Nepal Rastra Bank, IFC – International Finance Corporation, and other key stakeholders from the public and private sectors.

Speaking at the event, the President of the Nepal Bankers’ Association stated,

“As Nepal’s financial sector continues to digitize, cybersecurity resilience has become a fundamental pillar for safeguarding trust, ensuring stability, and sustaining growth. Strengthening collaboration among key stakeholders is essential to effectively address emerging cyber risks.”

The workshop featured technical presentations focused on emerging cyber risks and future security frameworks. The Cyber Bureau, Nepal Police delivered a presentation on “Emerging Trends in Cyber-Enabled Frauds and Scams: Nepalese Context,” highlighting prevalent threat patterns and mitigation approaches. Visa presented “Shaping a Secure Digital Future,” sharing global best practices and technology-driven strategies for strengthening digital payment security.

A senior representative from Visa remarked,

“Building a secure digital payments ecosystem requires continuous investment in technology, awareness, and partnership. Collaboration with financial institutions and regulators is critical to staying ahead of evolving cyber threats.”

The program also included a panel discussion on “Building a Coordinated National Cybersecurity Ecosystem: Roles, Responsibilities and Way Forward,” which facilitated in-depth dialogue on inter-agency coordination, information sharing, and strategic approaches to enhancing national cybersecurity resilience.

Participants emphasized the need for sustained capacity building, proactive threat intelligence sharing, and coordinated national efforts to strengthen cybersecurity preparedness across the financial sector.

The workshop served as a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration, reinforcing NBA’s commitment to strengthening Nepal’s collective cybersecurity resilience in an increasingly digital financial landscape.
