Kathmandu, As the United Nations commemorated 80 years since its founding in 2025, Nepal marked 70 years of partnership with the United Nations, celebrating a relationship that has transformed lives, strengthened national institutions, and positioned Nepal as both a beneficiary of international cooperation and a global contributor to peace and development.
Nepal formally became a Member State of the United Nations on 14 December 1955, laying the foundation for seven decades of collaboration in support of the Nepali people and the global community.
The UN Day 2025 celebration, held at UN House in Kathmandu, was exceptionally high-level and demonstrated strong national ownership. The Rt. Honourable Prime Minister of Nepal, Madam Sushila Karki, five Cabinet Ministers, the Chiefs of the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force, members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, civil society representatives, and the United Nations Country Team participated in the event.
Together, we reflect not only on what this partnership has delivered for Nepal, but also on Nepal’s growing role as a contributor to global peace and development. As we look to the future, this enduring collaboration remains central to advancing shared values, shared responsibilities, and shared aspirations for the Nepali people and the world.
