Kathmandu- Nepal has officially submitted its updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) to the UN Climate Change—a bold step forward in its climate journey. 🌍🇳🇵
To accelerate implementation, the Ministry of Forests and Environment, Nepal with support from UNDP and partners, hosted a national workshop uniting government leaders, sectoral experts, development partners, and civil society. The workshop emphasized inclusive planning, multilevel collaboration, and the urgent need for coordinated climate action across ministries, provinces, and communities.
Speaking at the event, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Nepal, Hanaa Singer-Hamdy mentioned the urgency of shifting away from traditional biomass, which remains a primary cooking fuel in rural areas. She also emphasized the participatory process behind NDC 3.0, which engaged women, youth, indigenous peoples, and marginalized communities—making it a strong foundation for equitable climate action.
Further, UNDP Nepal Resident Representative Kyoko Yokosuka reaffirmed UNDP’s commitment to walking alongside Nepal in turning NDC commitments into real progress. She emphasized that NDC 3.0 must be more than a plan of ambition—it should serve as a living roadmap to an inclusive, resilient, and sustainable future. On behalf of UNDP, she extended her best wishes to the Government of Nepal and all stakeholders, calling on everyone to make this not just a milestone, but a moment where ambition turns into concrete climate action.
Similarly, Chief Secretary of the Government of Nepal, Mr. Eaknarayan Aryal; Secretary of the Ministry of Forests and Environment, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Mishra; and Joint Secretary Dr. Maheshwar Dhakal emphasized that tackling the climate crisis demands strong coordination and collaboration.
