Kathmandu: Millennium Challenge Account Nepal (MCA-Nepal) today commemorated the start of construction of the 18-kilometer transmission line and the New Butwal Substation in Sunwal, Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta West).
Ambassador Dean R. Thompson joined Hon. Minister of Finance Rameshore Prasad Khanal, MCC Resident Country Director Diane Francisco, and MCA-Nepal Executive Director Khadga Bahadur Bisht at the construction initiation event.
This milestone marks the transition from planning to building major energy infrastructure that will strengthen Nepal’s power transmission capacity and regional connectivity. The event also demonstrates the continued commitment of the United States and Nepali governments to completing the MCC Nepal Compact on time. Additionally, construction on the Nepal–India cross-border transmission line will enhance energy trade between the two countries and support regional economic growth.
In his remarks, Ambassador Thompson emphasized that this project reflects the strength of the partnership between the United States and Nepal and the shared vision both countries hold for a more prosperous future.
The United States remains a committed partner in helping Nepal build a reliable energy system, expand regional trade, and create new opportunities for the Nepali people. 🇺🇸🇳🇵
