Kathmandu. WordCamp Kathmandu 2026, the premier conference of the WordPress community that has played a crucial role in developing Nepal’s information technology sector, is scheduled for September 18 and 19. Organized by WordPress Kathmandu, the grand event will take place at Alice Receptions in Gairidhara.
The event will witness the participation of over 500 national and international attendees, including delegates from the USA, Europe, Bangladesh, and India, alongside more than 30 expert speakers. Operating under the theme “Where Ancient Culture Meets Open Source,” the conference aims to bridge the historical heritage of the Kathmandu Valley with the collaborative philosophy of open-source software development.
The two-day technological congregation is structured to maximize community impact and knowledge sharing. The first day, known as Contributor Day, will be dedicated to giving back to the ecosystem, where new and seasoned professionals will collaborate to make WordPress more secure, robust, and accessible. The second day will feature the main conference where global tech experts will present papers and share insights on contemporary, future-oriented topics such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, advanced SEO, and digital marketing. With WordPress powering approximately 43 percent of all websites globally, the event serves as an outstanding platform for Nepali developers, digital entrepreneurs, and agencies to elevate their capabilities for the competitive global market.
This flagship event builds upon the successful decentralization of tech expertise in Nepal, following past regional WordCamps in Butwal, Pokhara, and Bharatpur that effectively boosted tech-tourism.
Furthermore, the conference continues to support social inclusivity through the Ujwal Thapa Memorial Scholarship, which brings marginalized students into the tech mainstream. By enabling Nepali youth to earn foreign currency through digital exports and establishing high-yield domestic employment to mitigate brain drain, the WordPress ecosystem remains a transformative force. Backed by a seamless digital ticketing system and inclusive leadership, WordCamp Kathmandu 2026 stands as a strategic milestone in establishing Nepal as a premier IT hub in South Asia.
