Nepal Sales Mission renews and strengthens Tourism Trade Ties in Kolkata

Kathmandu: The Nepal Sales Mission in Kolkata was successfully organized on Friday, 30 January 2026, bringing together key tourism stakeholders from Nepal and India to strengthen bilateral tourism cooperation and business partnerships. The B2B networking event was jointly organized by the Consulate General of Nepal in Kolkata and the Nepal Tourism Board, in collaboration with the Society of Travel Tour Operators Nepal and Buddha Air.

Held at the Topaz Hall of Hotel Hindustan International, the event witnessed the participation of around 200 attendees, including leading travel and tour operators from West Bengal, media representatives, tourism professionals and members of the diplomatic community. The program served as a dynamic platform for direct interaction, networking, and business discussions between the travel trade of Nepal and West Bengal.
A total of 19 companies from Nepal participated in the sales mission, comprising leading travel and tour companies along with one hotel. Overall, 25 delegates represented Nepal at the event. The Nepal Tourism Board was represented by two senior officials, Mr. Surya Thapaliya, Senior Manager, and Ms. Jayshakti Sarraf, Senior Officer, who actively engaged with Indian counterparts to promote Nepal as a diverse, year round tourism destination.

The Nepal Sales Mission aimed to highlight Nepal’s wide range of tourism offerings, including leisure travel, adventure tourism, pilgrimage circuits, cultural experiences, and emerging niche segments. Special emphasis was placed on improving travel connectivity, strengthening trade partnerships, and encouraging increased tourist flows from West Bengal to Nepal.

Representatives from the organizing institutions emphasized the strategic importance of the Indian market for Nepal’s tourism industry, particularly eastern India, which shares strong cultural, historical, and people to people linkages with Nepal. The collaboration with Buddha Air further underscored the role of air connectivity in tourism growth, with Buddha Air currently operating four flights a week between Kathmandu and Kolkata, providing convenient access for travelers and tourism stakeholders from both sides.

The event received positive feedback from participating stakeholders, with fruitful B2B interactions and renewed interest in developing joint tour packages, promotional campaigns, and long term collaborations.

Media participation further enhanced the visibility of Nepal’s tourism offerings across the Indian market.

Board Senior Manager Thapaliya believes that the Nepal Sales Mission held in Kolkata will play a significant role in substantially increasing tourist arrivals from West Bengal to Nepal through the expansion of business partnerships.

“The successful completion of the Nepal Sales Mission in Kolkata marks an important milestone in the Nepal Tourism Board’s ongoing efforts to strengthen regional collaboration and expand tourism ties with the Indian market.”
