7th Chinese Language Training Program for Nepalese Tourism Professionals Concludes


Kathmandu : The 7th Chinese Language Training Course for Nepalese tourism professionals concluded today with a formal closing ceremony held at the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) Auditorium. This initiative, supported by the Chinese government, is a part of the ongoing collaboration between the Embassy of China in Nepal, the Nepal China Cultural Educational Council (NCCEC), and the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).

During the ceremony, the graduates demonstrated their newly acquired language skills through impressive performances, which included cultural presentations and martial arts displays. The vibrant performances were met with praise from the dignitaries, highlighting the significant progress of the students and the success of the program.
Key Highlights and Remarks from Dignitaries:

His Excellency Zhou Pan, DCM of the Embassy of China: His Excellency expressed his delight at witnessing the enthusiasm and dedication of Nepali students in learning the Chinese language and culture. He emphasized that proficiency in Chinese would unlock access to the largest tourism market in the world, benefiting Nepal’s tourism sector and economy. He also mentioned the Chinese government’s focus on the tourism sector in the 15th Five-Year Plan, which he believes will foster growth not only in China but also in Nepal’s tourism industry.

Dr. Harish Shah, Chairman of the Nepal China Cultural Educational Council (NCCEC): The program, which has been organized annually since its inception, provides Chinese language training to over 50 students each year. This initiative was first introduced following the signing of a bilateral assistance agreement during the visit of His Excellency Prime Minister Prachanda to China and his meeting with President Xi Jinping.
The closing ceremony was graced by the presence of key dignitaries, including His Excellency Zhou Pan, Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) at the Chinese Embassy, Mr. Ram Krishna Lamichane, Director General of the Department of Tourism, and Mr. Hikmat Singh Ayer, Officiating CEO of the Nepal Tourism Board. The event featured a certificate distribution ceremony, honoring the graduates of the 7th batch of Chinese language students.

Dr. Shah highlighted the global importance of the Chinese language, particularly in international trade and its significant benefits for Nepal’s tourism sector. He also underscored the growing popularity of Chinese language learning among Nepali people.

Mr. Ram Krishna Lamichane, Director General, Department of Tourism: Mr. Lamichane noted the vital role of this course in promoting Nepal as a prime tourism destination for Chinese travelers. He stressed that the knowledge of Chinese language would enable Nepal to better engage with Chinese tourists and meet the government’s target of increasing Chinese tourist arrivals in the country.


Mr. Hikmat Singh Ayer, Senior Director, Nepal Tourism Board: Mr. Ayer congratulated the graduates of the 7th batch and expressed his commitment to continuing the program in the future. He emphasized that the development of skilled human resources proficient in the Chinese language would be instrumental in enhancing Nepal’s capacity to serve Chinese tourists and further develop the tourism sector.

Robin Regmi, Senior Officer NTB mentioned that this is the continuing capacity building programs of NTB in collaboration with Embassy of china in Nepal with a aim of producing quality professionals in Chinese language that could be useful to various sectors of economy not only limiting to tourism but also others avenues of trade and economy and fostering a better relations between two nations and it’s people.

This initiative is expected to continue fostering stronger ties between China and Nepal, enhancing people-to-people relations and promoting the growth of tourism and economic collaboration between the two nations.
